While the design team started work on the characters, our director @thirdchildart storyboarded the trailer–a roughly drawn, black and white loose version of the final product.
These boards were timed out with dialogue and temp music. Most editing was done in this stage–deciding which shots didn’t fit, or which should be extended. Then the whole trailer was cut up shot by shot to give to the animators!
After @goknights and @gullshriek completed the character designs, our animation lead @itsleahelaine created these cleaned up turnaround sheets for the characters we would use the most! These would then be turned over to our animators, along with storyboards of their shots for timing and reference!

@gullshriek and @goknights drew our character and costume designs! As shots were rearranged or simplified, some of the designs sadly didn’t make it into the final trailer. But now they’re here for YOU to enjoy! (LOOK AT THAT BEAUTIFUL KILLIAN)
TRAILER PROCESS 02!
Colorscript! The rough thumbnails were divided into sections and handed off to our color key artist @paticmak ! Some keys had very specific instructions or reference from the director. Others, Pati used her own amazing sense of color and style to design the key!

TRAILER PROCESS 01:
After getting her final script approved, our director @thirdchildart thumbnailed out the trailer. Those red lines are for each new camera angle–no red lines means those thumbs are all part of the same shot.
This is a first pass at what shots would be in the trailer and how they would fit together. If you compare them with the final, this first pass is pretty close! Shots were trimmed here and there for clarity, and the final edit order of the final montage shuffled around to better fit the wonderland track. These thumbnails were then divided into sequences, handed off to the color key painter, and used to build lists of what characters, settings, props, and costumes need to be designed.
